An integrated hospital comprising a general hospital, a community hospital and specialised outpatient clinics, Sengkang Hospitals were designed to be a holistic and cohesive development that prioritises the community it serves. Engaging in Sengkang’s socio-economic fabric, the design aims to build a welcoming campus that focuses on patients’ recovery. As a healthcare facility, it also addresses the collaborative connection between departments, realised through clear and synergistic spatial programming and efficient way-finding strategies.

Featuring a monochromatic material selection, both tactile and visual, the practical and timeless canvas adopts a seamless treatment of internal and external zones. The architectural porosity of its open spaces and public concourses offers an inclusive environment that blurs the spatial lines between private and public domains. Complementing this is the use of clear and efficient way-finding elements through coherent signage and strategic, bold colours, connecting the hospital to the people it serves while creating distinct zones of service areas and social spaces. Introducing warmth and a sense of community by adopting warm colours and thoughtful lighting, the design offers a comforting and hospitable environment for patients.

The people-centric design of Sengkang Hospitals de-stigmatise the sterile and dreary impression of healthcare facilities. Instead, through strategic spatial planning and meticulous design choices, it achieves a communal and inclusive environment for patients, staff and visitors.
