The Portico Lounge Wins at IIDA Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards 2025

Recognised for its sensitive and user-centric design, The Portico Lounge was selected as a winner for the Corporate Space, Small (under 1,000 square metres) category at the recent IIDA Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards 2025.

Designed with gardens in mind, The Portico Lounge embodies Singapore’s philosophy of ‘living in nature’, bringing nature into the workspace to create an immersive environment that supports wellbeing and inspires creativity. With an emphasis on creating a meaningful and purposeful environment, the design conveys warmth and hospitality, fostering a sense of belonging and ease among executives, administrative staff and visitors.

Drawing cues from the intimate courtyards of traditional Chinese gardens, the design is centred around a spacious communal living area where nature and elegance coexist in harmony. Courtyards are strategically positioned to ensure that each suite and office maintains a constant connection to the landscape—either through direct sightlines or garden elements of the interior. Viewed from within, the courtyards create an illusion of expanded space, their proximity visually doubling the perceived area.

Framing the courtyards and corridors are flowing, refined marquee fabric arches that emphasise fluidity and soft, extended lines. Started as a simple hand sketch of an overhanging landscape, the graphic on the fabric is a continuous sequence, carefully created for printing on chiffon fabric. These arches, together with the courtyards, not only define individual spaces but also act as welcoming thresholds that evoke a sense of movement reminiscent of meandering natural landscapes.

Defined by the incorporation of tropical elements and the use of natural materials, communal areas within the office encourage communication and collaboration, while private offices offer visitors the discretion needed for confidential business. The thoughtful layout enables the space to cater to diverse needs, offering a cohesive, holistic work environment. In particular, the office suites are designed to resemble familiar home spaces, fostering a sense of home and comfort. Intentionally minimalistic, the design allows the user to personalise the space, inviting the individual to fill the space with their own unique style.

Sustainable features—energy-efficient lighting and air-conditioning, as well as eco-friendly materials—are meticulously integrated into the design, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility and a healthier indoor atmosphere. Promoting productivity, this sensitive approach also serves to support the wellbeing of the employees and care for the environment.
