DP Design Named Interior Design Firm Of The Year At The IDCS Design Excellence Awards 2025, Along With Five Other Project Honours |

On 14th May 2025, Interior Design Confederation Singapore (IDCS) held its annual Design Excellence Awards (DEA) Gala Dinner at Shangri-La Singapore, attended by Guest of Honour former president of Singapore and Chancellor of the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) Mdm Halimah Yacob. DP Design secured six awards across five projects, headlined by the highest honour of the night – Interior Design Firm of the Year.
The Portico Lounge clinched Gold in the Best Workplace Design (≥ 5,001 sq ft) category. Drawing inspiration from the intimate courtyards of traditional Chinese gardens to centre communal living amid nature and elegance, The Portico Lounge balances community areas with professional function. Flowing marquee fabric arches frame corridors and thresholds to evoke a sense of movement and ease, while strategically positioned courtyards ensure each suite maintains a constant connection to the landscape.
An Additions and Alterations project within the conserved Capitol Building, Capitol Bistro. Bar. Patisserie was awarded Gold in the Best F&B Design category. A tropical oasis that extends Singapore’s “city in nature” narrative into a semi-alfresco dining environment and organised across distinct zones, bistro, bar and patisserie, the space functions cohesively through biophilic design and spatial efficiency. The team’s commitment to sustainability included repurposing existing furniture, fittings and equipment to minimise embodied carbon.
HDB Workplace Transformation claimed Silver in the Best Workplace Design (≥ 5,001 sq ft) category. Drawing on the rhythms of local public housing – void decks, community pavilions, greenery – and familiar material references such as terrazzo and concrete, this design was conceived as a spatial reflection of the Housing & Development Board’s identity and heritage. The office fosters spontaneous collaboration and a sense of belonging, translating the experience of home into a workplace environment that resonates with both staff and visitors.
A warm, inclusive third space that invites visitors to pause, gather and connect, Odeon 331 was awarded Silver in the Best Public Design category. The redesign transforms what was once a cramped office lobby into an open urban park. Guided by the philosophy of ‘less is more’, the project retained much of the original structure and materiality, minimising construction waste and embodied carbon. Passive design strategies such as ceiling fan placement informed by wind studies and strategic landscaping for rain protection address tropical comfort without mechanical intervention.
The Exchange TRX received Silver in the Best Retail Design category. Located in Kuala Lumpur, the experience-led retail destination is conceived as a network of interconnected yet distinct environments unified beneath a shared park. Cultural heritage is woven throughout the project, from batik-inspired monogram patterns in the Central Exchange to songket-inspired spindle lighting in the Dining Terrace and Welcome Halls. A strong connection between nature, culture and urban life is drawn out to shape a destination that balances placemaking with commercial vitality.
The Design Excellence Awards recognise the best of commercial, residential and public design across Singapore and Asia Pacific, championing design excellence and elevating the standards of the interior design profession locally and regionally. Winning no fewer than six awards – including the prestigious Interior Design Firm of the Year honour – marks this year’s Design Excellence Awards evening as a celebratory milestone for DP Design.
